People don't know how to be happy
What is happiness to you? What does it feel like for you? How would you define it, in your own words?
We are sold so many ideas about happiness every day. But have you ever taken a moment to truly explore what it means to you? Recently, I did – thanks to a book I “accidentally” stumbled upon.
One line struck me: “People don’t know how to be happy.” At that moment, I realized I didn’t either.
The pursue of happiness
I had been searching for a deeper meaning, looking within, and I found myself asking: What actually makes me happy?
So I took my laptop, went for an inspiring walk through a forest near London, and started pouring my heart out. I wrote down everything I thought happiness was and what I wanted it to be.
Like so many others, I’d been sold in the idea that happiness comes from achieving big things. But no matter what you achieve, there is always something else on the horizon – another goal, another shiny thing to chase and chasing your happiness can become pretty exhausting journey…
Eventually, I reached a point where I started looking inward, realizing that true happiness doesn’t come from outside. I learned how to control my thoughts, meditate, and embrace tools to connect with my heart.
It was freeing, but I also knew I couldn’t live in the clouds forever. I needed balance.
So, my mission became clear: to empower myself (and as many others as I can) to find that balance – to bring our head and heart into harmony, to ground ourselves while still reaching for more.
Happiness on your terms
This journey helped me so much that I want to share a few simple steps you can try too:
- Define happiness in your own words, what does happiness feel like to you
- Define happiness on your own terms – make a list of what truly brings you joy and write down whatever it is that makes you twinkle.
As I did this, I realized that my days were already filled with happiness – just not the kind we think it should look like – the ideal picture from the Hallmark movies. Said who? I asked myself!
Because you are already living it!
It all starts with you!
